My role in this project and brief description of the project.
Role: researcher, UX/UI designer, user testing
Durations: 10 weeks
Objectives: To design a logo and brand for Zeit that is modern and historical at the same time and build a responsive e-commerce website that is easy to use and allows users to browse through different trip categories and details
After years of discussion of safety and deliberation of course of action, Zeit has been approved to make time-traveling tourism open to everyone and anyone that wants to go back into the past. With almost 300 destinations all over the world, travelers can pick a time and location from prehistoric times to travel to. Zeit is ready to time travel and they need our help to show it to the world!
Quick rundown of the research process. I started my process by thinking about what methodolgy would work best with the needs of Zeit.
Objectives:
- Defining what group is interested in traveling
- Understand how users book their trips
- Understand what is important when it comes to booking trips
- See if any flaws in the booking process turn users away from completing a booking
Methodology
Individual interviews to understand their process of booking and what are the concerns about when booking and what is giving them affirmation. Competitor Analysis to see what trends are current and what works and doesn't work for specific e-commerce sites.
Primary: Individual Interviews
- Young adults or older who are interested in learning about history and traveling (age 18+)
- People who have lots of experience in booking trips
Bonus: If booked within the last 12 months
People who don’t travel often but maybe once or twice a year
Secondary: Competitor Analysis
Google
(+)Visual map to show prices
(-)Actual booking on airline site, not Google
Expedia
(+)Offers many different packages
(-)Flexible date feature difficult to understand
Tripadvisor
(+)Reviews from other travelers
(-)Constant sign-in pop-up
Understanding what the audience would be looking for on that app whether they are an enthusiast or not.
Based on my research findings, I developed a site map to identify the major features that I believe would work well on Zeit. The sketches were created as low-fidelity prototypes of the website.
Creating the flow of the application for a user and a singe task. To view the flows by clicking on them.
User flow and task flows were to created to help me focus on the main goal of Zeit. The company's goal is to have users book their traveling services through their various destinations.
Creating the digital sketches.
After completing my sketches, I started creating the wireframes for the desktop, tablet, and mobile homepage. I also created wireframes for a couple of desktop pages that I believe would be a priority to the interface.
The brand logo, style, and UI kit.
Zeit asked for a branding that shows modern and history to traveling. I created a logo that I feel best represents time travelling. It shows two circle shapes that overlap to represent an eclipse and this in combinations of the futurist "ZEIT" in the middle. The color palette showcases the sense of sophistication of the technology, peace in the idea of history, and the quality of the time traveling experience.
Sharing my prototype to the DesignLab community, I was able to get a variety of responses and impressions of the application.
From beginning to end, I was able to be learn from each phase of creating a brand and an e-commerce website. I learned how to do completive research and in interviews. I designed the logo and website from the limited information that I received for this project.
Priority Revision
The next focus of the design would be applying the content to the individual pages such as revising the "About Us" page. Rewriting some of the content so it flows more together.
Next steps for this project is to continue making iterations based on the usability testing results. Then to produce a higher fidelity prototype of the desktop version to get a better idea of how the website should be used.
